Filmmaking styles and editing styles, came from action sports

Skateboarding in the 80s. Surfing in the 90s. Snowboarding in the 2000s.
A surprising amount of what we now see in mainstream films and social content was shaped by these genres.

At Coffee & Creatives (part of WSSF 🏔), I spoke about how action sports didn’t just influence what we shoot, but how we shoot.

➡️ Fast cuts, gritty scenes, fisheye lenses, movement-driven edits…

These weren’t born in ad agencies.
They were forged in the streets, in the backcountry, in DIY films made by crews chasing their friends with cameras.

One of my biggest lessons from those early days:
️‍Energy matters. 🔥

It’s what we work to bring into every project at Magnafire, even when we’re not filming action.
The movement. The momentum. The energy of the scene.
